OUR MISSION
CATS helps those most in need get off the street, achieve stability and establish permanent housing by providing compassionate, culturally sensitive services.
OUR ORGANIZATIONAL VISION
We envision a San Francisco where everyone who has lost the ability to care for themselves is given the support they need to gain control of their own lives. There will be no homeless on the street, those with illness and addiction will be cared for, and everyone will be supported along a path toward permanent housing and self-sufficiency.
OUR CULTURAL COMPETENCY VISION
We collectively hold a belief and value that everyone’s individual differences, experiences and cultural backgrounds are important to respect and honor. This will help to heighten our awareness and understanding of why CATS does the work it does. We provide support to achieve compassionate services in a safe environment.
The principles of cultural competency permeate CATS, as we reach beyond our societal boundaries to others from diverse backgrounds including clients, staff, board and our agency partners. The Board of Directors welcomes diverse perspectives and formulates policies in the context of cultural awareness of all issues. We practice self awareness and reflect on our interactions with others to improve the quality of our relationships with the individuals served and touched by CATS. We focus services on single adults who are chronically homeless and come from diverse backgrounds that we strive to acknowledge and understand. We accept clients where they are at and hire staff who come from similar backgrounds, who are sensitive to their issues and who are trained to use their own experiences in a skilled, helpful manner. We approach our relationships at CATS with cultural sensitivity, forming a framework for cohesive staff/management/board relationships. Our services are provided in a friendly, warm, homelike environment that fosters a foundation from which clients can prepare for a permanent home of their own.
